FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHY  FP101C
(In Afrikaans or English)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

FP101C - Freelance Photography 101

COURSE OUTLINE

The purpose of this course is to understand the functionality of the photography hardware and to teach the general techniques of photography. This will enable you to produce better photographs, in spite of the fact that you may not own professional equipment.

The course starts from beginner level and takes one through to freelance level.

The following topics will be discussed:

Section 1 - Hardware

FP101H1 conveys the most prominent terminology regarding photography, as well as the definition of a photograph. The reason why we take photographs will also be discussed in this module as well as different formats of cameras. In FP101H2, we deal with types of lenses, types of film and types of exposures. Accessories of photography are discussed in FP101H3.

In module FP101H4, we discuss testing camera equipment, the home studio, vision, colour and Camera clubs.

Please note: Darkrooms are not discussed in this course.

Section 2 - Techniques

Characteristics of a good photograph are discussed in Techniques FP101T1. In this module, we also explain what exactly happens when the shutter trigger is pressed. Photographic techniques (such as Portraiture, Landscapes, Architecture, Still Life, Nature, etc.) are explained in Hardware FP101T2 and FP101T3.

Requirements

For this course, students may use any camera to their avail, including disposable cameras and digital cameras.  SLR-cameras with manual override functions are recommended.  After all, it is not to learn about one specific camera, but to be able to use any camera for your task.

Some cameras may be inadequate for the course, but you will get your points if you can explain why the image is inferior to the request in the assignment.  We allow this to (1) teach you photography before you go and buy an expensive camera and (2) to save you money by making the correct choice when buying camera equipment.

Cost

Once-off R1,250-00 per student per year.  The cost includes Registration, manuals and formal classes, but excludes film, D&P and final theoretical exam. (Finance can also be arranged via EDU-LOAN)

If you are only interested attending the formal classes (not obtaining a certificate or not interested in doing the correspondence course), the cost is R800-00 per set of 7-8 classes (no manual/certificate).

Students must bring the following to class

All camera equipment,
Spare film,
Camera's instruction manuals,
Own notebook and pen/pencil,
Own refreshments

Language of instruction

Although students have the option to choose between Afrikaans or English handbooks, the language of instruction in the formal classes are determined by the language of the students in the class.

Registered with the Correspondence College Council as per Act 59 of 1965.
